Invitation

The COVID-19 pandemic affected all of us in terms of relationships and scientific collaboration. We missed the meetings and scientific exchange, so we are resuming the tradition of large-scale meetings in Central Europe to share knowledge about advances in social and environmental sciences. Therefore,

The Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies
of the University of Warsaw

in collaboration with:

Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM)
Universidad de Manizales, Colombia
Universidad Surcolombiana, Colombia
University of the National Education Commission, Krakow

Organize the

Latin American Congress of Social and Environmental Sciences

Warsaw, June 16-19, 2025

The event will be held under the title

“Towards Environmental and Spatial Justice: The Role of Geography and Territorial Planning”

and will combine the XXIV Polish-Mexican Symposium
and the V Polish-Colombian Symposium.

Its scale and quality will refer to the most important Latin American events in Poland, including the ICA Congress organized 25 years before in Warsaw. On the occasion of this anniversary, let’s meet again at the University of Warsaw.

For participants, it can also be an opportunity to combine their stay in Europe with participation in the 58th International Congress of Americanists (ICA) 150 years in Novi Sad (Serbia) between June 30 and July 4, 2025.

We look forward to your presence to share knowledge in the field of social and environmental sciences, especially thanks to new experiences and new lines of research.

We have formulated the following main axes of the Congress:

  1. The wealth of resources and the perspective of the benefits of their use – any conflicts
  2. Divided societies: internal structures and relations and their spatial image
  3. Authorities facing the needs and expectations of citizens – manifest and covert strategies and
    actions
  4. Lost, hidden, marginalized societies: their rootedness in a specific territory
  5. Mechanisms, tools, and technologies to support local and regional development
  6. Alternative development and alternatives to development
  7. Paradigm of territorial justice facing competition for rent – local and global actors.

However, we are also open to your suggestions.

The Congress will be held in the building of the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw.

You can already submit proposals: thematic panels, papers, workshops, book or journal presentations, round tables, or other types of academic activities.

A registration fee is planned, the amount of which, along with other detailed information about the Congress, will be sent in September in the second call.
